Update OpenBuddies

Terminal window
openbuddies update

It checks for a new version and tells you which one it found. Say yes, and it:

  1. Stops OpenBuddies. Your child’s buddy is away for a minute or so.
  2. Keeps a copy of your household folder next to it, such as ~/openbuddies-before-0.2.0-….
  3. Installs the new version and starts it again.

Your children, buddies, chats, files and settings all carry over, and paired phones stay paired. Your child just reloads the app.

If the new version doesn’t start, openbuddies update puts the previous version and the copy of your household back, starts that, and tells you what went wrong. The household as the new version left it is kept too, so you can report the problem.

The three newest copies are kept, and older ones are removed after each successful update.

To go back to an earlier version, name it: openbuddies update --to 0.1.0. See every version on the releases page.

Running the install command again also updates OpenBuddies. Then run openbuddies start to restart on the new version.
